Annual Golf Tournament

17th Annual Golf Tournament
Ministerial Scholarship Fund

Can you believe that this is our 17th year to sponsor a golf tournament? Each year it has grown and that means more students are awarded scholarships to help them as they pursue a degree in full-time Christian ministry. Our goal is that they will graduate with no debt from education loans.

This year we are honoring Dr. Bob Ratcliff. Originally hailing from Oktibbeha County, Mississippi and then finishing high school in Jackson, Bob returned to Starkville where he earned his B.S. and M.S. at Mississippi State University. After six months of active duty in the Army Reserve, he re-entered MSU working toward a Ph.D. in animal nutrition and biochemistry. During his last 2 years of grad school, Bob married Gay Brantley in 1960, and they welcomed their son, Robert Jr.

Having successfully completed his eductation, Bob went to work in Jackson for Mississippi Federated Cooperatives, where he was employed 22 years and was named the VP of grain marketing and the animal feed program, which consisted of 9 mills in Mississippi and Louisiana plus management contracts in the MS Delta and Puerto Rico. During this time, a daughter, Beth, was born. Bob took early retirement from MFC and later worked for 17 years with Great Southern Industries.

The Ratcliff family joined Christ United in 1972 at the time that David McIntosh received appointment as senior pastor. Serving in various roles through the years, Bob found his service on the Christ United Ministerial Scholarship Committee to be the most personally gratifying and enjoyable. Help us honor Bob dedication to this ministry area on May 25.

Tournament Site - Deerfield Golf Club (May 25, 2017)

This year's tournament will be held at Deerfield Golf Club with a 10:30am registration, 11:00am lunch, and 12-Noon shotgun start. Deerfield is an 18-hole golf course having hosted PGA qualifiers and the State Amateur championships. Another top end event will be taking place this year as Deerfield will serve as the course for the Sanderson Farms PGA pre-qualifying rounds on Friday and Monday. The course was designed by Byron Nelson and is a great test of golf in central Mississippi and on par with Dancing Rabbit Azalea Course. The course requires constant thought from ball placement off the tee to position on the greens. The course is well maintained and the greens are quick and true. The course features bermuda fairways, mini verdi greens, a distance of 6900 yards from the longest tees, slope rating of 131, and a 73.1 USGA rating.

If you play golf, plan to play with us at Deerfield Golf Club on May 25, 2017. The cost is $125 which covers 18 holes of golf, cart, and lunch, $90 of which is tax deductible.
